Winter - ArtCan group show

If you’re not familiar with the concept of a Salon hang — a term derived from how art was tightly hung in 18th century Salon de Paris exhibitions using every available inch of wall — then this group show of 66 works in a room not much larger than a standard bedroom might feel a bit…

Claustrophobic? Overwhelming? Exciting? Joyous?

The artist-led, non-profit arts organisation ArtCan asked their members “What does winter mean to you?” and member KV Duong curated the results.

For such a small room, there is an incredibly wide range of styles but not a wide range of talent. That’s not a slight. The overall quality of the works on display is high. I’ve seen some of these artists’ works before, and a lot of them are on my short list for eventual acquisitions.

All the works, bar two, are under £1,000. The rest have an average price of £410 and 100% of the proceeds goes to the artist. Which is my way of saying this is the perfect opportunity for you to support independent artists and pretty up your walls without breaking the bank.

With everything from acrylic, bronze, ceramics, gouache, ink, lino-cut, monotype, oil, pastels, photographs, spray paint, steel and stitch-work on display, there’s literally something for everyone.

I’ve tried to include a selection of photos to represent the spectrum of artists and skills in the show, but to truly appreciate everything on offer, you’ll just have to go.
