Globe Primary School Mosaics

If you’re doing the East End gallery hop I suggested yesterday (Roundup Issue 25) then be sure to walk past Globe Primary School on Gawber Street in Bethnal Green. It’s another fab community art project from Maud Milton, ArtyFace and pretty much everyone from the school.

The theme was animals from around the globe. I was disappointed I didn’t spot any penguins (maybe the polar bear ate them?) but there are giraffes, alligators, armadillos, rhinos, insects, birds and all sorts of colourful characters spanning not one, not two, but three sides of the school building.

In total, over two dozen large designs wrap around the block, which I’m sure brightens up a lot of school runs for kids, parents and even the local community. I like to think that one day in the future, these mosaics will prompt happy memories for the former students who helped make them as they drop off their own children at the school.

You can read more about this project on the ArtyFace website.
